The arts are too often overlooked in special education. Actually, they can be a key to unlock many doors and should be consulted and applied first, before jumping to other conclusions. Music is the mathematical art, and its rhythmic repetitions assist many people with mental focus, self-regulation, and memory. Dance features similar benefits, incorporating music and relatively planned movement. Have you thought about a simple playlist of music and songs (yes, singing does not have to be perfect, it’s something like homemade macaroni & cheese) for your child?
The following BBC project explores ways you can create your own musical assistant. Try it and let us know what you discover!
